Free Baby Quilt Pattern: Easy Owl Crib Quilt

Monday, April 22, 2013

Easily sew this quick crib quilt with 5 fat quarters, 2 yards of cotton fabric and a yard of fleece. This crib quilt pattern can be done in a few evenings and makes a great baby shower gift.

You will need:
(I tend to over-buy yardage and I think I probably could have gotten two quilt tops out of the fat quarters and cotton fabrics, then just purchased a second yard of fleece)

1 Yard of Fleece
5 Fat Quarters
1 Yard of Fun Fabric
1 Yard of Solid Fabric

All of the fabric from this baby quilt came from Joann Fabrics.

Cut the fat quarters for the two sides, an 8" x 13" and an 8" x 4" of each fat quarter.

Cut the fun cotton, patterned fabric into one long strip, 48" x 11".

Cut the yard of solid cotton fabric into 2" strips and join into long strips. I use this method at the beginning of the binding tutorial.

Border all squares with the solid fabric in between to complete the top.

Quilt the top to the fleece and trim the excess, then bind using your preferred binding method. I used the fun patterned fabric with this method.

Use this quilt pattern template to help you create your fun character quilt.

  2. How are you supposed to get a 48" strip out of a yard of fabric that is 44" wide?
